What is this?
Enacted in 1993, the Family and Medical Leave Act (FMLA) generally provides eligible employees with up to 12 workweeks of unpaid leave a year, and requires that group health benefits be maintained during the leave. Employees are also entitled to return to their same or an equivalent job at the end of their FMLA leave. What sounds simple in theory, is in reality a very complex piece of legislation that can be challenging to administer.
Join us to hear Eric Athey, Co-Chair of the Labor and Employment Practice Group at McNees Wallace and Nurick LLP, address the most common compliance pitfalls and how to avoid them. Topics to be addressed include the following:
• Understanding the FMLA’s complex notice requirements
• Employee benefit issues during FMLA leave
• Do’s and Don’ts of administering intermittent leave
• Coordinating obligations under FMLA, the ADA and workers compensation laws
• Recent case law developments
